Latest 'Addams Family' animated movie a major success for Vancouver studio
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – There’s a Vancouver connection to the new ‘Addams Family’ movie that hit theaters this past week.
Cinesite Studios says the entire film was created at their Vancouver office, the first full-length animated feature completed there.
Neil Eskuri is a Visual Effects Supervisor with Cinesite, he says a crew of 240 people worked on the project, from storyboarding and design to final delivery.
“We are fortunate to get a great team across all departments,” he says. “From design to lighting, animation. Every department was a great team effort.”
The film is made up of 1173 shots across 86 minutes and is based on the creations of Charles Addams, who created the initial comic book series.
Production Designer Patricia Atchison worked with directors to develop a “new look” for the beloved family. “The most enjoyable aspect of this production for me”, she says, “was in re-imagining the Addams Family world, taking close visual reference from Charles Addams’ unique original cartoon drawings, while giving them a modern twist.”
It took 24 months for Cinesite to create the film, with help from the Montreal studio.
The film boasts a star-studded cast, including the voices of Charlize Theron, Snoop Dogg, and Alison Janney.
There’s plenty of Canadian talent too, including Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, and Vancouver’s Finn Wolfhard.
